An Australian who repeatedly raped a Filipino girl from the age of five to eight years could be freed from jail in just six years.

Terrence William Hainsworth, aged 61, abused the girl until while he was living in Angeles City between 2005 and 2008.

According to a report in PerthNow, Hainsworth threatened his victim and forced her to watch footage of other children being sexually abused.

Hainsworth was originally jailed for 13 months in 2009 after he was caught with child pornography on his computer at Perth Airport in 2008, WA today reported.

Then, in 2016, police discovered Hainsworth had stored indecent images of the Filipino girl on a hard drive when they raided his home in the Perth suburb of Midland.

Hainsworth initially denied the crimes after he was questioned by police.

He eventually pleaded guilty to seven offences, including attempting to have sexual intercourse with a child under 16 while overseas as an Australian citizen and for committing indecent acts with a child under 16 while overseas.

Victim ‘blamed herself’

In a victim statement read to the court yesterday (Friday, March 29) the woman said she still feels the effects of the abuse 10 years on and blames herself for being repeatedly raped.

“Nothing to do with this offending is her fault,” Judge Wendy Gillan told Hainsworth.

“This offending is very serious … you really took the most terrible advantage of her.”

The judge also said that Hainsworth had not learned from his previous child pornography conviction, after more indecent images were found on hard drives in 2016.

She added that Hainsworth had not shown any remorse for his crimes, despite receiving sexual offending counselling during his first prison sentence.

He was sentenced to two years in jail for child pornography and nine years for the abuse of the girl.

He will be eligible for parole in 2025, after serving just six years in prison.

Since Hainsworth’s offending in the Philippines, the Australian government has introduced a travel ban for sex offenders.
