Anxious cop kills fellow police officer inside NCRPO headquarters

A 47-year-old police officer was killed after his fellow cop shot him inside National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City, Thursday morning.

The victim Master Sergeant Edwin Linsoco San Joaquin, assigned to the NCRPO’s 8th Maneuver Force Company (MFC), Regional Mobile Force Batallion (RMFB), was declared dead-on-arrival at Parañaque Doctors Hospital due to gunshot wounds.

The suspect, Corporal Bryan Jorkis Camarauan Quinagoran, 28, and also assigned to the MFC, RMFB, NCRPO, was arrested.

According to the report, the shooting took place at the entrance of the 8th MFC (1st Research and Development Center RDC) Barracks inside the NCRPO.

During the initial investigation, the suspect came down to barracks for breakfast, and a few minutes later, the victim went downstairs to check the detail order.

While the victim was talking to the duty radio operator, the suspect suddenly showed up and shot the victim twice.

The victim was still able to ask for help, but the suspect quickly followed him and shot him again.

The RMFB’s stand-by alert personnel immediately arrested the suspect while the victim was rushed to Parañaque Doctors Hospital.

According to the information, the suspect showed unusual behavior and fears that he might get infected with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The suspect allegedly cannot sleep after he acquired a lung disease during their Basic Internal Security Operation Course. Because of the pandemic COVID-19, the suspect got stressed that he might get infected by the virus. He said he was scared that might be put in quarantine and will never see his loved ones again.

The suspect also thought of his wife, who recently gave birth, and that he will not be able to return home due to PNP’s full alert concerning the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

World Health Organization said mental health issues are expected to rise during this pandemic. “In public mental health terms, the main psychological impact to date is elevated rates of stress or anxiety. But as new measures and impacts are introduced – especially quarantine and its effects on many people’s usual activities, routines or livelihoods – levels of loneliness, depression, harmful alcohol, and drug use, and self-harm or suicidal behavior are also expected to rise,” it said.
