It’s not just girls, girls, girls: 15 great days out in Angeles City

One of the biggest complaints of visitors to Angeles City is that the city has little to offer, other than nightlife. A recent article (here) suggested some alternatives to bars and clubs, which prompted readers to suggest some other options. Here we present 15 of them (things to do, not the girls below)…

Angeles City

1. Go for a flight

The city’s heritage as an airbase is reflected by the thriving Angeles City Flying Club. Pleasure flights can be booked at surprisingly affordable prices.

2. Explore the whole country

Nayong Pilipino is a chance to tour the whole of the country in one day. Located in Clark Freeport Zone, it contains miniature replicas of Bohol’s Chocolate Hills, Magellan’s Cross, Vigan, Manila’s Intramuros and other landmarks and attractions from across the Philippines. Ideal if you want to explore the whole country, but can’t bear to be too far away from Fields Avenue.

3. Have a game of golf

There are currently nine golf courses within reasonable driving distance of Angeles. The Swagman Hotel organises daily trips, and others can also help organise visits.

4. Get close to historic aircraft

Located in Clark Freeport Zone, Air Force City Park features decommissioned helicopters and planes as well as children’s play areas in a parkland setting. A great day out for any aviation enthusiasts — particularly if they have children who need to run around and let off steam.

5. Climb a mountain

Guides can help you trek to the top of Mount Pinatubo, but those who are less athletically inclined can book an off-road vehicle that deposits you just a 30-minute hike from the lake.

6. Relax in the water

Puning Hot Spring is a great place to get a mudpack-sand massage. Some visitors have questioned the prices, but most report a pleasant day out. The front desk at can help arrange a visit (and why not visit their new Aqua Beach Club while you’re there?)

7. Have a game of lawn bowls

The Angeles Sports and Country Club also features a nine-hole golf course, driving range, bar, restaurant, spa and children’s play area. The club also hosts regular cricket matches.

8. Walk with dinosaurs

Dinosaur Island in Clark features life-sized animatronic models of Tyrannosaurus Rex, Rhinoceros, Iguanodon, Triceratops and many more.

9. Have a splashing good time

Fontana Water Park and Casino is great choice for a hot day. As well as several pools, there is a river ride, restaurants and bars.

10. Saddle up

El Kabayo Riding Stables is a great place to go horse riding in Clark Freeport Zone with marked routes and guides available.

11. Whizz along the water

A custom-built Wake Boarding lake can be found in Deca, Free Port. You can either have a go yourself, or grab a beer and watch other people wiping out on the water.

12. Explore the past

Learn about the history and art of Angeles city at the Museo Ning Angeles housed in the old city hall at the heart of the Santa Rosario Historical District.

13. Discover local history

While you’re in the area, the nearby Centre of Kapampangan Studies is worth a visit. It features multimedia exhibits, masses of interesting information and a great coffee shop.

14. Celebrate the dogs of war

This well-maintained burial place commemorates the dogs who worked at the Clark Airbase. The K9 Cemetery is a touching reminder of the importance of animals in the armed forces.

15. Relax in suburban America

The Clearwater Resort and Spa at Clark Free Port promises to be a faithful recreation of the American way of life, a nod to the thousands of servicemen who once lived at the site. The beautifully maintained grounds are a great place for a relaxing family day out.
