A teenager in Pennsylvania is in a bit of hot water after he responded to a scam originating from the Philippines.

Pennsylvania State Police reported that a 15-year-old student from Bentworth High School in Washington County, Pennsylvania, used the popular ‘Kik’ messenger app –  the teen responded to a text from someone in the Philippines posing as a girl, the girl sent him a semi-nude photograph.

The girl then asked the teen to send a nude photograph of himself – he responded by sending a photo – after sending the photo, the girl told him if he didn’t send money to an account in the Philippines his picture was going to go viral – this according to a local news report by CBS News affiliate KDKA.

The teen then attempted to send the money through Western Union but was unsuccessful.

State Police warned locals about the ‘Kik’ messenger app – many have deemed the app unsafe for minors.

The app does not require users to give a phone number and does not verify their birth dates – many have condemned the app for not having proper parental controls in place.
