John Frederick Warnaca, aged 47, a Fresno, California native, died while arguing with his girlfriend at a Manila Internet cafe.
That owners of the business told police that Mr Warnaca came into the shop at 2pm. However, by 3.30pm he was noticed to be leaning backwards in his seat and not moving.
The police were called and he was declared dead at the scene. An investigation revealed that he had been chatting on Facebook with a Filipina believed to be his girlfriend.
The American Embassy in Manila has been informed.
