Actress Iza Calzado who had been admitted at the hospital for pneumonia tested positive of COVID-19, her manager Noel Ferrer confirmed on Saturday.
Noel Ferrer shared the actress’s health condition in a statement on his Facebook account, saying: “Iza Calzado received her results yesterday that she tested positive for CoVid. She is recovering well as she was aggressively treated for pneumonia and the virus. She can actually breath now without any oxygen assistance.”
He said Iza’s husband and other people she had close contact with would be screened as well, but they have not shown symptoms.
Iza is the second Filipino celebrity who had been infected with the pandemic virus, after veteran actor Christopher de Leon. De Leon was already released from the hospital.
Another actor, Menggie Cobarrubias, who succumbed to pneumonia recently, was tested for COVID-19. His results have yet to be released.
It was still unclear on where did Iza Calzado caught the virus or when she first showed symptoms of COVID-19.
Before the Luzon-wide community quarantine due to coronavirus, which effectively halted showbiz productions, Calzado was filming the upcoming ABS-CBN teleserye “Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin.”
In Holywood, Tom Hanks and wife Rita are among the first celebrities who tested positive of the virus. NBA star Kevin Durant was also infected.
