Abu Sayyaf attacks Sulu police station, kills 2 cops

Two policemen were killed while two others were injured when members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) attacked the Parang Municipal Police Station in Sulu Saturday night.

Patrolman Arjun Putalan and Corporal Mudar were declared dead on arrival at Parang Municipal Hospital. At the same time, two other policemen, Executive Master Sergeant Hamin Sarribon and Senior Master Sergeant Harold Nieva, were treated at the hospital.

According to the report to Camp Crame, an unidentified number of armed groups attacked the Parang Municipal Police Station located in Brgy. Poblacion, Parang, Sulu at around 6:30 pm.

The alleged Abu Sayyaf members used high-caliber guns and fired shots at the police station. The police on-duty were caught on surprise and defended themselves.

The exchange of gunfire lasted for several minutes and killed two police officers. The suspected terrorists fled to the town of Indanan.

The military and elements of the PNP Special Action Force (PNP SAF) have already launched operations against the fleeing bandits.

Two friends shot dead in Albay

Two friends were shot dead by an unidentified suspect who had just rented a house in Purok-5, Brgy. Pandan in Ligao City, Albay, on Saturday afternoon.

Police identified the suspects as Domingo Porteria Jr., 21, and Alberto Noga Atanante, 26, both residents of Purok-3.

In the report of Capt. Dexter Panganiban, a spokesman for the Albay Police, it was around 4:40 pm when witnesses saw Porteria and Atanante riding a motorcycle and carrying an airgun to the home of the unidentified male suspect.

However, after a few moments and for no apparent reason, the victims and the suspect were seen were running along the nearby river until two gunshots were heard.

When witnesses arrived at the scene, they found two friends lying around. The Ligao City Rescue Team immediately rushed them to the Josefina Belmonte Duran Memorial District Hospital, but both were declared dead-on-arrival.

The suspect walked away, going to the direction of the city’s Centro-Poblacion.
