9 out of 10 patients in ICUs not vaccinated

Nine out of ten patients bedridden in intensive care units of hospitals have not yet been vaccinated.

As a result, a medical adviser of the National Task Force against COVID-19 once again called on senior citizens and those with comorbidities to get vaccinated.

Dr. Ted Herbosa said the chances of a COVID positive being admitted to the ICU without the vaccine are very high because there is no protection against the more severe symptoms of the virus.

“Yung may bakuna, mild lang, may sipon lang. Hindi nila kailangan ma-ospital, doon lang sila sa isolation facilities,” said Herbosa.

Herbosa also called for the speedy target of vaccinating 50% of Metro Manila’s population and take advantage of the fact that it is now under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

To date, up to 24 million doses of  have been injected nationwide.

Nearly 13 million have already received the first dose, while 11.2 million have been fully vaccinated, equivalent to 15.88 percent of the target population.

The National Task Force Against COVID-19 has also proposed to the National Immunization Technical Advisory Group to include in vaccination those aged 12 to 17 in the face of the threat of the more contagious Delta variant of COVID-19.

Once approved and there is an adequate vaccine supply, it is possible to vaccinate those aged 12 to 17 in September or October.

Meanwhile, ABS-CBN Data Analytics found that other regions also contributed significantly to the ’s current swell of new COVID-19 cases apart from the National Capital Region.

In the past, as the number of COVID-19 cases has increased, more than half of the cases have come from Metro Manila.

But now, the inflation is due to the increase of cases in the NCR and elsewhere.

According to ABS-CBN Data Analytics, the average number of new COVID-19 cases per day has reached 8,695 in the past week or from August 1 to 7.

Metro Manila receives 2,066 cases per day, which is also 62 percent higher than the number of cases in the last week of July.

There are 1,513 7-day daily average cases in Calabarzon, while 984 in Central Luzon. The numbers are also large in Central (914) and Western Visayas (615), and Northern Mindanao (527).
