As of May 13, a total of 849,862 Filipinos have registered to national ID online for Step 1 of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said on Monday.
The online registration for Step 1 started on April 30.
Although the portal for National ID online registration is not readily accessible due to “technical difficulties,” on the first day, registration resumed after technical errors were addressed.
According to PSA, around 34 million have so far completed Step 1 via a house-to-house collection of demographic data in priority provinces.
Step 1 of the national ID registration requires 10 demographic information — name, gender, birthplace and birth date, blood type, address, citizenship, marital status, cellphone number, and email address of registrants.
Meanwhile, for Step 2, the registrant’s biometric data (iris scan, fingerprints, and photograph) would be taken at PhilSys registration centers. The PSA earlier said there are about 4.6 million who completed the second stage of PhilSys.
“The third and final step of PhilSys registration will involve the issuance of the PhilSys Number (PSN) and the physical ID or the PhilID. The PSN is a randomly generated number that will serve as a permanent identification number for every registrant,” the PSA said.
National ID aims to facilitate the provision of services to the public and give low-income families the opportunity to open their bank accounts as well.
“Aside from opening a bank account, isa pang vision sa National ID ay para po mapadali ang mga transaction sa gobyerno nung may ID. Kagaya ngayon, maaaring nahuli kami para sa distribution ng ayuda, makakatulong ang National ID. Pero ini-expect namin na pagka ang gobyerno natin ay naka synchronize na lahat ng ID, pag ikaw tumanggap ng ayuda hindi makakatanggap ulit ng panibagong ayuda sa iba pang lugar dahil identified. Ito na po ang gagamitin natin na single ID na recognized by all government agencies,” the PSA official explained.
