8 PNP-CIDG personnel arrested for allegedly robbing Chinese nationals in Angeles City

Police in Angeles City, Pampanga, responded after receiving a call that armed men had entered a house. The suspects they caught were members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).

In a report by Cj Torida of Balitang Amianan on GMA News “24 Oras” on Thursday, Police Major Jonathan Mostoles, chief of CIDG-Angeles City, said that early Wednesday morning when they received a call about the alleged armed men who entered a house in a subdivision in Barangay Balibago.

They allegedly found the Chinese victims lying inside the house, with their belongings upside down.

Some of the belongings of the Chinese nationals were found inside the police vehicles.

Money worth P300,000 and several US dollars were also found in the vehicle of the arrested police officers.

The investigation revealed that those arrested were personnel of the Anti-organized Crime unit of the PNP-CIDG in Camp Crame.

According to a Chinese victim, the police pressed them and demanded P5 million.

The arrested police officers did not give a statement but said to the investigation that they were in the area to conduct a buy-bust operation about the gun and that their target was Chinese.

According to Mostoles, when they checked their protocol in conducting the operation, the arrested police officers appeared to be lying.

He is also said to be one of the policemen arrested and previously involved in the illegal drug situation in Olongapo.

Aside from the robbery complaint, the arrested police officers will also face administrative charges.

Their leaders will also be investigated to determine if there has been any negligence.

PNP-CIDG Director Major General Ignatius Ferro had earlier condemned the involvement of CIDG personnel in such crimes.

In December, four City police station personnel were placed in restrictive custody for their involvement in the alleged robbery of a Japanese man and his Filipina partner in Pasig City.

The commander of  City Sub-Station 1 has been placed under administrative  to avoid influencing the ongoing investigation into the incident.
