4 Davao City LGU employees caught drinking inside school

Four Davao City local government employees were fired after drinking inside a school despite the city’s enforced liquor ban until January 31.

According to Davao City Public Safety and Security Command Center chief Angel Sumagaysay, the incident happened on January 2 at Bolton Elementary School, where the Rapid Action Team against COVID-19is based.

The four job order employees are members of the Rapid Action Team.

According to Lemuel Ortonio, chief of the Human Resource Management Office (HRMO), the incident was first reported to the City Mayor’s Office along with photos of those involved and the alcohol they drank.

“An investigation was already conducted and HRMO has already prepared a termination memo for these individuals,” said Ortonio.

The job order employees are immediately removed from the service, the plantilla employees will be subjected to review and conference with the HRMO investigating committee.

“We do not tolerate this kind of behavior, especially from Davao City government personnel. Since we are in the public service, we should be the ones to uphold the laws being implemented by the city,” said Ortonio.

In December, 14 employees of the City Engineer’s Office were also arrested after drinking inside the Motor Pool compound in Barangay Ma-a.

Police caught up with government employees with bottles of wine while still wearing their uniforms.

Earlier, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte issued a stern warning against the Davawenyos, especially government employees who violate the law prohibiting gatherings such as Christmas parties in the city due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, many residents living near the Davao river were flooded after the river overflowed starting Friday afternoon.

This is caused by heavy rains in the upland area of ​​the Davao river due to localized thunderstorms and easterlies that affect Davao City.

In the netizen’s videos, it can be seen that the river started to overflow in Barangay Tamugan and Calinan district, resulting in flooding of houses near the river.

The ground also collapsed on the side of the road in Sitio Acasia in Barangay Tamugan as seen in the video of Domieboy Gahoc, where a house was damaged.
