356 cops in Duterte’s drug watchlist undergo drug, lie detector test

The 356 policemen included in President Rodrigo Duterte’s drug watchlist underwent drug test and lie detector test while as they are undergoing thorough investigation.

PNP Chief of Police General Archie Gamboa has earlier ordered to subject the 356 policemen involved in illegal drugs to an in-depth investigation.

Gamboa declined to specify what the processes the cops were going through, especially if the ‘narco cops’ would undergo lifestyle checks.

“I do not want to divulge the mechanics, baka maunahan kami [they could get ahead of us] but it will be extensive based on the resources, based on the data that we have and again we will also be asking other government agencies especially if the information that led to their listing came from other government agencies,” said PNP Chief.

Gamboa said of the 357 narco cops, one died already, so only 356 were investigated while 15 availed early retirement, and 43 went AWOL (Absent Without Official Leave).

Gamboa did not reveal how many tested positive for the drug test, but all who arrived on the day they were summoned to Camp Crame were negative while 47 did not show up.

PNP chief explained that the ‘narco cops’ undergoing a polygraph test had no probative value. He said they had taken such steps as part of their investigation process.

Gamboa also assures that there will be separate hearings on the 43 police officers who had gone AWOL and were involved in the illegal drug trade.
