A lady cop’s 3-year-old son was killed in an accident on Mt. Sto. Tomas, Poblacion, Tuba, Benguet, Sunday afternoon. The child stuck out his head while riding a PNP truck and hit his head against a cafe’s wall.
Police identified the young victim as Cherye Cleveland Figueras, son of P / Staff Sergeant Generosa Figueras assigned to the Regional Mobile Force Battalion of the Cordillera Police Office.
As per the initial investigation, Figueras was with his son exiting their camp aboard the Isuzu Flexi truck, a service vehicle of their station. Police Cpl. Eric Accatan, 29, of the K9 Unit to Baguio City was driving the car when the accident occurred.
It was learned that Figueras did not immediately notice that his son was sticking his head out of the left window of Explosive and Ordnance and K9 Unit truck when the tragedy took place around 3:52 pm.
It was possible that out of curiosity, the child looked outside when he suddenly and unfortunately hit his head at the Café in the Sky’s gate where they planned to eat.
The boy was seated on a long bench in the police vehicle with his mother behind the driver.
The mother and her colleague tried to get the victim to the Baguio General Hospital, but doctors declared the 3-year-old boy dead.
Accatan and the child’s mother are under police custody to determine if they are responsible for the negligence, which resulted in the child’s death.
