3 COVID-19 deaths recorded in Batanes 3; 4 critical flown to Cagayan

Four critical COVID-19 patients in Batanes were flown to Cagayan Valley for further medical attention. Meanwhile, a third patient died due to complications caused by the virus in the province.

In a report by Ivy Hernando on GMA Regional TV “Balitang Amianan” on Monday, it was said that the 56-year-old was the third patient to die from Basco.

The four critical patients, on the other hand, were hospitalized at level 1 hospital Batanes General Hospital and transferred to the larger Cagayan Valley Medical Center in Tuguegarao.

“The family is encouraged if they will agree to be taken to Cagayan Valley Medical Center to complete their needs,” said Batanes Governor Marilou Cayco.

There are more than 500 active COVID-19 cases in the province. He said the quarantine facility in Batanes remains a problem so schools, hotels, and homestays have also been used for quarantine.

Another problem is the supply of oxygen after the plant in the province broke down and it is said that people will come from Manila to do it.

Meanwhile, drugs for COVID-19 such as Remdesivir have arrived.

“Binigyan na rin kami ng DOH ng compassionate permit para makabili kami ng mga gamot sa COVID-19. Kasi level 1 (hospital) lang kami, hindi kami basta-basta puwedeng bumili ng gamot sa COVID-19,” said Cayco.

From Tuesday to October 15, Batanes will be placed under modified enhanced community quarantine.

But inbound passenger flights will still be canceled and only cargo, emergency, and humanitarian flights will be allowed.

Last week, the province recorded its first COVID-19 death more than a year after the pandemic broke out in the country.

According to Justinne Jerico Socito, public information officer of Batanes, other COVID-19 positives were temporarily isolated in their respective houses while waiting for the quarantine facility to be taken to them.

It is said that the three quarantine facilities were damaged when Typhoon Kiko struck.
