Some 25 security staff have been suspended by the Manila International Airport Authority for various offences.
The name of the 25 will be included on a ‘blacklist’ for the airport pass control office to prevent them from being issued an ‘airport access pass.’
All of those found on the list are facing various extortion complaints from passengers, among them a departing passenger who is a relative of airport general manager Jose Angel Honrado.
Honrado’s relative was undergoing a routine baggage inspection when airport security personnel asked for a chocolate bar they found inside the luggage being inspected.
All 25 suspended airport security personnel are being fully investigated – if found guilty, they will be permanently barred from entering the airport complex.
Numerous complaints of missing cellphones, perfumes, jewellery, cash, electronics, wedding ring and even canned good were among some of the complaints filed by Airport Security Inspectorate Office. The agency conducts daily security inspections of all security personnel assigned to the airport.
