At least 24 people were hurt when a jeepney collided with a cargo truck in Baclayon town, about five miles south of Tagbilaran City.

Among those in critical condition was Rodel Baudita, driver of the passenger jeepney that was heading to Tagbilaran from Sikatuna town.

According to PO1 Versil Comicue of the Baclayon police traffic division, the passenger jeepney was speeding along the national highway in Barangay Taguihonat, Baclayon at around 8 a.m. when Baudita tried to overtake the vehicle in front of him.

But Baudita didn’t notice the incoming cargo truck from the opposite lane, causing the collision. The passenger jeepney then fell on its side.

The cargo truck driven by Narciso Esclamado, meanwhile, hit a mango tree on the roadside. The truck which came from Tagbilaran was bound for Valencia town.

Pinky Socies, communications officer of TARSIER 117, said the 24 injured passengers were sent to different hospitals in Tagbilaran City.
