2 provincial hospitals closed due to unpaid PhilHealth claims: group

The 2 hospitals in Samar and Davao Del Sur remain closed because they can no longer afford the cost of their daily operations after PhilHealth failed to pay the debt to them.

According to Private Hospitals Association of the Philippines president Dr. Jose Rene De Grano, on January 16, one of their member hospitals in Samar was forced to stop operations. On August 1, another member in Davao closed down.

“Parehong temporary ang kanilang closure. Iyong isa roon by religious group din. Pero ang nagma-manage mga pari and then the other one pero mga madre naman ang nagma-manage. There are, of course, a lot of factors doon pero ang major contributory factor niyan is iyong the non-payment of PhilHealth claims,” said De Grano.

De Grano added that the closure of such hospitals has a big impact on the campaign against COVID-19 in such areas.

Although De Grano initially refused to mention the names of such hospitals, Level-2 and Level-3 hospitals, he said, have a bed capacity of 50 to 80.

He admitted that most of their group has decided to sever its relationship with PhilHealth due to the situation.

He assured that if they continue to leave PhilHealth, they will still receive patient members.

But the PhilHealth member, he said, will cover their hospital expenses, and he will also take care of its claims with PhilHealth.
