2 arrested for gossiping against barangay chairman

Two alleged female gossipers were arrested for shouting out loud words and accusations against their barangay chairman during a confrontation on Leveriza St., Pasay City, yesterday morning.

The suspects identified as Leonila Angeles, 53, and May Cabelliza, 42, both residents of Leveriza St., Pasay City, are facing Intriguing Against Honor and Alarm and Scandal complaint.

According to the Pasay Police-Sub Station 1 report, the incident occurred around 9:45 a.m. on Leveriza St., Brgy. 19.

With the complaint of Brgy. Chairman Erlinda Garcia, authorities arrested and took the two women to the Sub-Station 1 CCP Complex after shouting in the middle of the street.

Chairman Garcia first approached and confronted the two women after they allegedly spread rumors and accusations that the village’s projects were anomalous.

Instead of explaining, the two allegedly scandalized and shouted humiliation and intrigue against the barangay official and also disturbed the residents’ peace and silence.


BOC burns 1.5 tonnes of illegal cargo

About 1.5 tonnes of illegal shipment, including 400 kilograms of beauty products, were burned by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) due to a lack of permits from the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).

Among the products that were destroyed were Goree-branded cosmetic, cosmetic packages that were allegedly illegally entered into the country without proper FDA permits and clearances.

BOC acted on FDA Advisory No. 2017-289, which states that Goree products contain toxic mercury chemicals that are beyond the limits and extremely harmful to the human body.

Beauty products and other cargo are burned using Integrated Waste Management Inc.’s Thermal Decomposer (Pyrolysis) (IWMI) in Trece Martires, Cavite, this past week.

This is the BOC’s fourth disposal of illegal cargo during the pandemic.

At present, the agency has 17.1 tonnes of various cargoes, including two tonnes of drugs and meat products destroyed.

P9M worth of ecstasy tablets from UK seized at NAIA

Customs authorities at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) seized over 5,000 ecstasy tablets put inside a paper shredder shipped from the UK.

They recovered 5,205 ecstasy tablets from the paper shredder and have an estimated street value of P9 million. BOC turned them over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for further investigation and the “prosecution of the consignee.”

BOC said persons responsible for the shipment would face charges for violation of the Dangerous Drugs Act concerning Section 1401 (Unlawful Importation).
