Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque wished 1Sambayan “the best” after most of the opposition coalition’s nominees declined to run for the 2022 elections.
“Dalawa lang ang tumanggap, si Vice President Robredo at former Senator Trillanes. I wish them the best kaso mukhang mahirap talaga ang kausa ng 1Sambayan kasi karamihan ng na-nominate [ay] tumanggi,” Roque said in an Unang Balita interview.
(Only Vice President Leni Robredo and former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV accepted their nomination. I wish 1Sambayan the best, although their cause seems lost as most of their nominees have declined.)
On Saturday, 1Sambayan released the list of those they wanted to support the presidency and vice president.
These include Vice President Leni Robredo, former senator Antonio Trillanes, Sen. Grace Poe, CIBAC Party-List Rep. Eddie Villanueva, human rights lawyer Chel Diokno, and Batangas Rep. Vilma Santos-Recto.
But immediately after that, Poe, Santos-Recto, Villanueva, and Diokno immediately said they were not interested in running.
Senator Joel Villanueva also said his father, Bro. Eddie has no plans for running in 2022. Santo-Recto also declined her nomination.

Meanwhile, Roque confirmed that President Rodrigo Duterte is urging television host Willie Revillame to run for senator or even president in the same interview.
“Kinukumpirma ko po iyan [I confirm that],” he said.
Duterte asked the “Wowowin” TV host to run for senator next year in a video message.
“Willie, si Mayor ‘to. Kumusta ka? Matagal na tayong ‘di nagkita pero palagi kitang naaalala dahil gusto ko sanang maging senador ka,” Duterte said.
According to Duterte, Revillame was hesitant to run.
But the President says the slot is open for Revillame anytime.
“Kung ayaw mo na talaga eh ‘di puwede na tayong mag-usap ulit,” Duterte said.
The President added that he was moved by Revillame’s appeal to the masses.
Duterte is the chairman of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan.
According to experts, it is time for those who want to run for president and vice president to make their run in the 2022 elections public.
