Apayao road accident. At least 19 people were killed while 22 others were injured after an elf truck fell on a cliff in Conner, Apayao, Thursday (October 31) night.
According to the reports of Conner Police Chief PCapt Manuel Canipas Jr., the victims were on their way home when the truck’s engine suddenly died while driving uphill in Barangay Karikitan.
The truck then went in reverse and fell into a 20-meter deep ravine.
Canipas also said the group just came from Rizal town in Cagayan to get their palay seeds subsidy when the tragic accident happened.
Investigators revealed the elf truck was overloaded, the weight of the palay it carries, plus the number of passengers.
Canipas said the truck’s breaks gave in because of the overloading.
Eleven of the victims were brought to Conner District Hospital while 11 others were treated at Cagayan Valley Medical Center, including the truck’s driver.
However, three of the passengers were miraculously unhurt in the accident.
Cagayan PIO official posted on social media the list of fatalities in the Apayao road accident.
