Tragically, a baby died and sustained bruises and wounds after allegedly being beaten with a stick by his 18-year-old mother in Taguig City.
Emil Sumangil told GMA News “24 Oras” on Wednesday that the crime took place at their home in Barangay Upper Bicutan past 6 pm on Tuesday.
“Doon po sir sa taas nangyari ‘yon. Hindi ko po alam [ang ugat] kasi hindi naman nagsasalita ‘yung anak ko sa akin. Bigla na lang po akong nagulat may tumawag na pong taga-center na sabi wala na po ‘yung apo ko,” said the baby’s grandmother and the suspect’s mother.

“Sabi lang po niya na pinalo-palo lang daw niya (she said she just hit the baby),” she added.

An autopsy on the child’s body has not yet come out but the investigation revealed that at least 10 bruises and wounds were found on various parts of the victim’s body.
Upon investigation by the authorities, it appears that the mother was irritated by her son’s crying. It was also not the first time the mother had hurt her baby.
“Mainit na po talaga ang dugo ng anak ko roon sa apo ko, sa pangalawang anak niya, kasi wala pong tatay din ‘yan,” said the victim’s grandmother.

Kung titingnan natin bata pa siya sa kaniyang edad, meron na siyang tatlong anak. Pangalawa, wala siyang trabaho, wala siyang hanapbuhay na regular. Kaya ‘yun ang nagtulak na naaaburido siya. Konting ano lang naiirita siya sa mga anak niya,” said Police Colonel Celso Rodriguez, Chief of Police of Taguig.
The mother is already in the custody of the Taguig Police and has been charged with parricide, with no statement on the incident.
