A joint operation by the Criminal Investigation & Detection Group, the National Meat Inspection Service, Baguio City Veterinary Office and animal rights groups has found four restaurants in Baguio City serving dog meat.

Officials say the owners of the restaurants will face charges if they are caught selling dog meat again – Republic Act 10536 (the Meat Inspection Act) bans the sale or trade of dog meat within the Philippines.

Police say the illegal dog meat trade in Baguio and Benguet is rampant, estimated to be valued in the millions of pesos each year.
