15,000 doses of Sputnik V component 2 arriving today

For those waiting for the second dose of Sputnik V, 15,000 doses of Sputnik V component 2 are expected to arrive on Friday, August 13.

“There is challenge in production of component 2, and they are supplying 50 countries,” said vaccine czar Carlito Galvez.

An additional 2 million doses of Sinovac vaccines purchased by the government also arrived in the Philippines this Thursday.

On Wednesday night, more than 813,000 doses of the vaccine manufactured by Pfizer landed in the country.

The bulk will be taken to Metro Manila and other urban centers, while 102,000 doses each will be allocated in Cebu and Davao.

Galvez said that the 100,000 Hayat-Vax vaccines donated by the United Arab Emirates would be distributed in the Bangsamoro region.

Local vaccine experts are still studying whether a booster shot or a third dose of Sinovac injections will be needed after a study showed that antibodies from the Chinese vaccine dropped after 6 months.

On Wednesday, up to 221,000 people were vaccinated every day in Metro Manila, but it was still above the target of 250,000.

“It’s a question of manpower na lang eh. If we have enough manpower, mas matatapos kaagad ito,” said Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chairman Benhur Abalos.

In Novaliches, Quezon City, the vaccine express program was launched, a project of the Office of the Vice President, Angat Buhay, and local government.

About 5,000 jeepney drivers and operators, tricycle drivers, and delivery riders are targeted to be vaccinated within 2 days.

The Quezon City government hopes to complete the first dose of vaccination to 1.7 million residents before the end of August if the vaccines continue to arrive.

In Manila, more than 1 million individuals have been vaccinated with the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Meanwhile, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said Thursday that they need to conduct a study first before the government could proceed to its plan of using ’s  as a second dose for  V.

Director-General Eric Domingo told Unang Balita that Sputnik V’s first component is called “Sputnik Light,” which can be given as a single dose.
