14,610 new COVID-19 cases recorded today: 3rd highest in history

The Department of Health (DOH) recorded 14,610 new infections of coronavirus disease on Monday, bringing the total cases to 1,755,846.

Based on newly collected data by the Department of Health, here are the new incoming data for today:

all cases: 1,755,846
still recovering: 106,672, or 6.1% of total infections
new recoveries: 10,674
deaths only: 27, which raises the total local death toll to 30,366

Today, DOH recorded the third-highest jump of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines in just one day (14,610) in history. It was released after the DOH announced the second-highest increase of 14,749 COVID-19 cases yesterday.

Today, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire of Western Visayas confirmed the first case of the “more contagious” Lambda variant of COVID-19 in the Philippines. Other than that, she was pregnant. However, the case is tagged as “recovered.”

Now that the number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines continues to rise, even Philippine National Police Gen. Guillermo Eleazar is begging the public not to hoard oxygen tanks and medical equipment, which can still be used in the midst of the crisis.

With the continuation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in various parts of the Philippines, the government has released P3.29 billion in aid to the affected residents. However, this is only 29.31% of the total.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque clarified that Metro Manila mayors have not yet proposed the next quarantine restrictions in the capital region. It will be recalled that the ECQ is scheduled to end in Manila this Friday.

Roque added that the National Capital Region is getting closer and closer to its vaccination target of 250,000 per day. However, he said Metro Manila is reaching 230,000/day: “We’re on our way to vaccinating at least 50 percent of our population in Metro Manila,” he said.

Although Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso is suspected to be the target of President Rodrigo Duterte’s innuendos last week, the Palace clarified that they are now praying for his immediate recovery from COVID-19.

COVID-19 has already affected 205.33 million people worldwide, according to the latest data from the World Health Organization. Of that number, 4.33 million people died.
