More than 124 tons of garbage were collected from 125 trash traps installed by the DENR in critical water bodies in Bataan, Bulacan, and Pampanga.
According to Paquito Moreno, Jr., executive director of DENR Region 3, trash traps have been strategically installed in the rivers and streams of the said provinces to reduce the amount of garbage that flows directly into the larger part of Manila Bay.
The DENR assured the public that sustainable waste management efforts by placing garbage dumps in local waterways would not impede the movement of fish and other aquatic species.
Since the Manila Bay rehabilitation program began in January 2019, more than 4,300 tons of biodegradable, residual, recyclable, and hazardous waste have been collected in Region 3.
The DENR continues to appeal to the public to properly segregate and dispose of their garbage to reduce the burden of plastic pollution and preserve the natural habitat of marine wildlife.
Some indigenous Aeta in Pampanga registered for national ID
Several Aetas have already registered for their national ID in Pampanga this Monday.
Rosita Serrano lined up early at the registration site built in Barangay Camias in Porac town, Pampanga. She said she has long wanted to get an ID to open a bank account for her children’s savings.
Rabbit Serrano was also eager to get a national ID to make it easier to get help from the government, especially now that there is a pandemic.
Lola Rosita and Lolo Rabbit are in the priority sector of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to be given national ID in the launch of Step 2 registration of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) in Porac.
With the help of the local government, the registration site was brought to the upland barangays.
“Hinati po natin siya into two teams. ‘Yung isang team po nandito po siya sa upland, for the registration of our IPs (indigenous peoples), kasi we want to limit the movement of our IPs sa baba kasi dito po sa upland wala pa po kaming COVID-19 cases,” explained Taps Laxamana, ng PhilSys.
