A driver died after his tricycle was set on fire after it was hit by an elf truck in Norala, South Cotabato, Tuesday afternoon.

The victim was identified as Elmer Degala, 46, who died after suffering 3rd-degree burns.

According to a report from Norala Municipal Police Station, they received a report of a vehicular accident at Purok Mercado Rizal, Brgy. Poblacion, around 4 pm, Tuesday.

According to a witness, the tricycle driven by Degala wobbled until it reached the other lane of the road. An approaching elf truck carrying rice then hit the tricycle.

“Pagewang-gewang daw itong tricycle according sa witness. Ang elf truck huminto para bigyang daan yung tricycle pero inabot ng tricycle yung elf-truck, binangga niya. Kaya biglang nag-spark yung tricycle, nasunog pati ‘yung driver.” said Police Maj. Nathaniel Panaguiton, chief of Norala police.

(The tricycle wobbled according to the witness. The elf truck stopped to give way, but it still hit the tricycle. The tricycle then sparked and burned the driver.)

The tricycle driver was immediately rescued and was rushed to the hospital but later died at 6:30 pm.

Meanwhile, the elf truck driver is currently detained in the precinct. The two sides are yet to talk about the incident.

Man arrested for using 4Ps cash aid for shabu business

Police arrested a man who allegedly used the cash aid he received from 4Ps (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program) as a capital for restarting his shabu business.

The GMA News COVID-19 Bulletin reported Wednesday the suspect was identified as Erickson Montemayor, 24 years old.

Police seized 10 grams of suspected shabu worth P68,000 from Montemayor.

Sampaloc Police said the suspect used the financial aid from the government to buy and sell illegal drugs, while his patrons used quarantine pass to get out and buy drugs.

The suspect admitted that he was selling drugs, which he apparently did because his wife is about to give birth.

The suspect has been detained at the Sampaloc Police Station and will be charged illegal possession and selling of drugs.
