Want to win a condo? Just ‘bring home a friend’ to visit the Philippines

Although the details of the scheme are still being finalised, an impressive range of prizes has been announced

Overseas Filipinos could win a condo and other big prizes just for inviting a foreign friend to visit their homeland. Other prizes being offered by the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) ‘Bring Home a Friend’ programme include a car, a 200,000-peso shopping spree and round-trip international flight tickets.

Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo said the scheme was intended to encourage overseas Filipinos to become “ambassadors of goodwill” to help sell the Philippines as a tourism destination.

“I know you are all eager to do it for free,” she said. “But just the same, the DOT with the private sector will be giving away incentives to those who can bring home a friend from September 1, 2017, to March, 2018.”

Mrs Teo made the announcement in a four-minute video posted on her Facebook page. Details of the scheme are still being finalised, but it is expected to be run four times per year.

“This is just the beginning of a stronger tourism promotion in Canada as we prepare to reopen the DOT office in Toronto,” she said.

In her Facebook page, Mrs Teo posted photos of herself in Toronto yesterday where she was seen speaking at city hall during the 19th Mabuhay Philippine Festival.

She was also recognised by Canada’s member of provincial parliament Han Dong on Friday for her drive to promote tourism between Ontario and the Philippines during the Philippine Tapestry show in Ontario.
