The Ministry of Health in Vietnam has ordered the recall of URC drinks due to high levels of lead content in them. URC is a Philippines based corporation.

This is the third time the country has ordered the recall – URC has a plant in Vietnam and has done little to remedy the issue with the popular drinks Rong Do and C2.

The country’s licensed producer of the drink, Universal Robina, has been part of an ongoing food safety scandal that has affected three batches so far. The scandal involves bribery to have the large batches of drinks passed through the system even though they were discovered to contain lead.

The company has said it will pull all products from the early January production batch – sources for the company said they are not sure how many bottles are affected by the recall.

The same sources noted the lead content in the drinks were up to nine times above the limit for lead contamination.

On Friday, the Vietnam Ministry ordered URC Vietnam to recall three other batches above what has already been recalled so far.
