A United States Navy P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol plane discovered three men on an uninhabited island in Micronesia on Thursday.
The plane was operating out of Misawa, Japan when it responded to a call for assistance from the US Coast Guard to help locate the three men.
The US Navy said the men had reported their skiff had capsized from a large wave a few hours after they departed on April 4.
The crew spent the night swimming until they arrived on Fandadik Island, an island that has never been inhabited. The is four nautical miles from Pulap.
The US Navy said: “A small boat from Pulap recovered the men from the island with no reported injuries. VP-5 is in the midst of a routine deployment to the US 7th Fleet area of operations.”
