The United Arab Emirates has issues a strong warning to its citisens to avoid wearing traditional clothing when travelling abroad.
The warning comes after an Emirati man was handcuffed in the state of Ohio in the US over terrorism fears sparked by his national dress.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has since tweeted that Emiratis should avoid wearing the garments for their personal safety.
In a separate ministry statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a warning urging women to abide by bans on face veils in certain parts of Europe.
Local and national media reported that Ahmed al-Menhali was detained at gunpoint last week and handcuffed in Avon, Ohio, after a hotel clerk raised suspicions he could have links to the so-called Islamic State group.
Menhali was wearing a traditional white kandura, or ankle-length robe at the time of his detainment and questioning.
