Two Filipina overseas workers killed in Islamic State attack on Libyan hotel

Two Filipino OFWs and three other foreigners have been killed after gunmen stormed a luxury Tripoli Hotel, a hang out for diplomats and high-ranking officials. The attack has been claimed by the Islamic State group. In all nine people are dead.

Two further Filipina OFWs were hurt in the attack.

A total of three militants rushed into the Corinthia Hotel and opened fire after detonating a bomb in a car outside. After opening fire in the lobby, the militants made their way to the 24th floor where most of the diplomatic and government activities takes place.

Once on the 24th floor security forces surrounded the three men, whereupon they detonated their explosive belts.

In all three security guards were killed as well as one American, two Filipinas, a French citizen, a South Korean official and a hostage who died after the attackers blew themselves up.
