Rumours of Nazi gold – and Japanese treasure hidden in the Philippines – have swirled since the last great war ended.

This week, a group of researchers in Poland will begin digging for the elusive train of gold. After the group reported they have traced the train’s origin, the 35 researchers will begin digging on Tuesday.

The group includes the likes of Piotr Koper and Andreas Richter.

A study outlining the existence of a gold train was performed by AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakaw, Poland – that report finalized that there is no claim to the existence of the stash of gold.

The study did confirm that the tunnel in which Koper and Richter are looking at digging into is in fact the area which the study by AGH pointed to.

Researchers say if the train exists it is not going to be that difficult to find – a report by the team of 35 researchers surfaced a year ago and already they are nearing its pinpointed location.

The team also noted that even if they find the tunnel and not the train, it will also be considered a success. Several of the volunteers suspect the train is hidden inside the tunnel, even away from the main tracks that are there.

The privately funded excavation of the tunnel will be live streamed and can be completed in just two days. A total of 3 holes will be drilled into the ground to expose any core samples and any sign that the train, tunnel or gold exists.

The entire project revolves around a Nazi-era train with valuable art, gems and gold that disappeared at the end of World War II. Those rumors have been circulating since 1945 and have given hope to many who are now in search of it.

The train is said to have been last seen in Wroclaw, a suburb of Poland.

The research team said last week that they are uncertain what they will find – a statement by the group to reporters said “Our geo-radar images show that there is a train with vehicles on it,” but in that same statement came the reality that the vehicles may well be tanks.

The tunnel system in question originally carried the name “Riese,” meaning “Giant” and indicates the size and dimensions of the underground network.

The Riese tunnel network was rumored to have housed a bunker for Adolf Hitler, but accounts of the noted tunnel network say the Riese was never finished.

Sources say that the train may have upwards of 300 tons of gold on it, as well as other highly valuable items.
