A strong current claimed the lives of three young children on Tuesday, as they attempted to cross a river in the town of Bacolor.
Pampanga police director Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Recomono identified the victims as eight-year-old Nicole Fuentes, four-year-old Marjorie Caniabano, and five-year-old Jomar Caniabano.
Police say the children were playing when they decided to cross the Gugu creek but failed to reach the other side.
Parents of the victims were helpless while watching their children being swept away by the strong current.
People from the town found the bodies of the three children several metres away from where they went under. The three were rushed to a nearby hospital but were declared dead on arrival.
Police said the parents should be held liable for the death of their children. Investigators are looking into the case to determine the liability factors involved with the incident.
