A 19-year-old boy has chopped off his left hand to cure himself of his addiction to the internet. The report was posted by the UK’s Daily Telegraph.
The boy, known only as Nantong, is from Jiangsu Province and reportedly cut off his left hand with a kitchen knife.
“We cannot accept what has happened. It was completely out of the blue. He was a smart boy,” his mother, who refused to be identified, was quoted by The Telegraph.
The mother of Nantong said she went into his room late in the evening and found a note where he was supposed to be sleeping. It read: “Mum, I have gone to hospital for a while. Don’t worry. I will definitely come back this evening.”
The son, who is also known as “Little Wang,” took a kitchen knife out of the drawer and severed his left hand.
Doctors from the regional hospital have attempted to reattach his left hand but at this point are unsure if it will succeed, the report noted.
China has a problem with internet addiction as it is estimated that more than 24 million teenagers alone are addicted.
