Teenager Lydia Ko won the New Zealand Open by four shots this weekend – this hard on the heels of winning the Australian Open last week, hitting a one-under-par 71 to finish on 14 under.

Ko, who won the event two years ago as an amateur, birded the opening two holes of her round and knocked in another on the sixth to put her out in the lead.

Her double bogey on the eighth, followed by a bogey on the ninth almost derailed her chances to win the coveted prize.

“This is even better than I would ever have imagined,” said Ko, who carded a course record 61 in the second round.

“It’s just great to have won the two opens back to back.”
