Also involved in the extortion ring is Juanito Carandang, a Taiwanese man who served as a middleman to the policemen.

Officials said the officers raided a condominium in Taguig City last week on the basis that two Korean businessmen were involved in an illegal gambling operation. After police failed to find evidence, they seized two vehicles, laptops and cell phones, three Rolex watches, an LED television and numerous other valuables belonging to the Korean men.

The policemen’s names came up after NBI arrested Hong Taie Won, the Taiwanese man, after he was caught demanding 10 million pesos in exchange for the dropping of charges against the Koreans.
