A verifiable intelligence source says negotiations are ongoing for the release of the three foreigners and one Filipina who were kidnapped from the marina/resort on Samal Island last month.

The source said the captors have established contact with the foreign embassy of the men.

“We received a call from our contact within the Abu Sayyaf in Sulu that their leaders are now negotiating for the four hostages taken by the group from Samal Island last month,” the source, an officer based in Camp Crame, said.

The source also said that Abu Sayyaf contacted the embassy and “they are now negotiating for the hostages’ safe release”.

Early information released by other sources said the group were taken to Sulu by their abductors. The group is said to be the same as the ones who kidnapped a German couple off of Palawan in April 2014 – they were freed in October after a huge ransom was paid for their release.
