Following a raid, some 60 Japanese people have been arrested for working illegally at a Cebu City call centre.
The raid took place at Japan Intertrade Call Center Corporation, located on the fifth floor of the TGU Tower in Cebu IT Park.
BI officials confiscated computers, documents, gadgets and other items.
The Philippine Star newspaper quoted NBI-7 Assistant Regional Director Augusto Eric Isidoro as saying the Japanese workers, none of whom were documented, could face charges before the court and might be deported.
If the illegal workers were convicted, they would face up to three years behind bars or a fine.
Website information for Japan Intertrade Call Centre listed only 40 employees.
Company officials said the arrested workers did not need to secure working permits from the Department of Labor (DOLE) as they were six-month internship employees.
