A fisherman in the town of Belison, province of Antique, has found a rare oarfish – the third to wash up in the region in the past few weeks.

Fisherman Pablo Crespo found the dying oarfish in a small canal on the shores of Maradiona, Belison. It measured 12’9″ in length.

Weighing 20 kilos, the oarfish is the largest of the three fish recently captured on the shores of Antique.

On July 23, fishermen in a village in Anini-y town also found a wounded oarfish measuring more than eight feet long. Based on its wounds, they believed the oarfish was attacked by a shark.

One week later fishermen in the town of Bugason found another oarfish.
