Seven dead and two missing after boat Capsizes between Iloilo and Guimaras Island

Seven people have been killed, while two others are missing after a passenger motorboat capsized between Iloilo City and Guimaras Island on Sunday.

The Coast Guard commander of the Iloilo Station said the seven dead include nine-year-old Mark Mata, six-year-old Luke Shile Mata, Cora Granila, Christine Daryle Vasquez and Mary Ann Gallego.

The M/V Tawash was transporting 32 passengers to the port of Jordan on Guimaras, leaving the port of Iloilo City when it was battered by strong winds and huge waves.

The boat capsized at 4.30pm, about a mile off the coast of the port of Iloilo.

Two other passengers are missing and presumed dead, including the mother and father of the two young boys, CJ Gamotea and Shine Mata.

Two other passengers were confined to a local hospital – they are Cherry Silverio and Chris John Cepada.
