Parents could be liable as five children drown in Pangasinan river

Some five children who allegedly did not realise the depth of the water drowned in a river in Barangay Hacienda, Bugallon town, Pangasinan on Tuesday.

The victims have been identified as Rose Ann, Nelson Jr and Carlo Marco; and cousins Christian Lee Salazar and Manuel Bugayong.

It took search teams three hours to find the remains of the victims. Local police said the children’s parents could be liable for negligence.

Meanwhile, GMA Bacolod has reported that 12-year-old Divia Leones drowned on the Lozano River in Barangay Mandalagan, Bacolod City.

Other children were also swimming in the river with the victim, but they did not realize that Divia was in trouble.

It was only when Divia disappeared that the realized that something had gone wrong. The other swimmers searched for, eventually finding her body minutes later.

The victim was then rushed to hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.
