Mactan Cebu International Airport is set to lose its only trans-Pacific flight service this month.
Philippine Airlines (PAL) announced this week that it is to “temporarily suspend” its Cebu to Los Angeles service from the end of this month. No indication of when, if ever, the thrice-weekly service would resume was given.
The news comes just weeks after the airline promised “better service and new routes” in the near future.
A “public advisory” on its website said: “The suspension of the Cebu-Los Angeles service is being carried out as Pal rationalises capacity on the route.
“PAL is seeking the kind understanding of affected passengers as the airline implements these operational adjustments.”
The statement went on to say that passengers who had already bought tickets for flights after May 30 should rebook flights, to change at Manila, or request a refund.
The statement said: “Affected passengers are advised to avail of any of these options within 30 days from original flight dates, with rebooking/refunding charges waived. PAL will also communicate with affected passengers via email notification and call-out.
“PAL is seeking the kind understanding of affected passengers as the airline implements these operational adjustments.”
PAL continues to operate 25 flights a week between Manila and the US Mainland: Twice daily to Los Angeles; daily to San Francisco and four times a week to New York. It also operates daily to Guam and five times a week to Honolulu.
