A suspected Pakistani member of the Islamic State terror group was barred from entering the Philippines at Clark Airport.
The Bureau of Immigration’s deputy commissioner Marc Red Mariñas identified the man as Naeem Hussain. He was intercepted on September 22, when he arrived aboard an Emirates Airlines flight from Dubai.
The 36-year-old was immediately excluded and booked on the first available flight to his point of departure for being included in the bureau’s list of suspected international terrorists.
“He was turned away because he is on our alert list of suspected international terrorists for being an alleged trainer of Daesh,” Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said in a statement.
Daesh is another term for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria or Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
He has been placed on the watchlist of the military intelligence community which sought the BI’s help in monitoring the Pakistani’s possible entry or departure from the country.
According to Hussein, he had been working as a digital designer for the last 16 years and that he travelled to the Philippines to visit his Filipina girlfriend who lives in Olongapo City.
He was also denied entry last May when he attempted to enter the country, also from Dubai, via the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila.
Meanwhile, police and army personnel arrest three members of an IS-affiliated terror group in South Cotabato today (Monday, October 1).
Chief Superintendent Eliseo Tam Rasco said two black IS flags, ammonium nitrate, blasting caps, bullets for M-16 rifles, a fragmentation grenade and three rifle grenades were seized during the raid.
Akmad Bulacon, and his sons Muktar and Zandro, were suspected of the murder of a police officer last month. Two other sons, identified as Mohammad and Arafat, escaped under cover of darkness during the 2am raid.
As we reported last week, another raid in South Cotabato yield a similar haul of IS flags and improvised explosive device components.
