A Swedish man has been arrested in Taguig City for threatening to release nude pictures of his ex-girlfriend unless she paid 100,000 pesos.
Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation’s Special Action Unit detained Michael William Ryan Thierry Fischer Lagarde at a mall earlier this month.
Lagarde — who also goes by the names of Dan Richard William Prentiss Boggs, Michael William Theirry Rubenstein Boggs and Ryan Archer — identified himself as a former marine and defence contractor when presented to the media last Tuesday (September 17).
The arrest was made based on the complaint of Lagarde’s former Filipina girlfriend, who claimed that he had threatened to distribute her nude pictures across the internet unless she handed over 100,000 pesos.
She told the NBI that they had previously been in a relationship for two years. During this time, she said, he had been taking money from her and charged large sums to her credit cards and ATM account.
The complainant broke up with Lagarde last June after learning that he had been lying to her. She also discovered that he had been convicted multiple times for fraud in Sweden and had victimised other women.
The complainant also said she found out that Lagarde had used the same modus operandi on her as with his other female victims in Sweden.
The exact charges against Lagarde have not been announced, but he can be prosecuted for grave coercion and grave threats under Republic Act 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004.
