For a while now, the city of Manila has been providing an entirely different reason for people to visit the Philippines.

Typically, people have visited to enjoy the natural beauty of the country. There are surreal places to visit all around the Philippines, and over time certain beaches and resorts have become particularly famous.

In Manila, however, the gradual build-up of the so-called “Entertainment City,” in the image of Las Vegas, has given people a whole new incentive to come. Manila can now legitimately be called one of the top resort entertainment destinations in the world.

Now, some might imagine that the success of a place like Manila might be short-lived, simply because there are arguments to be made that casinos are fast going out of fashion. There is talk that some of the other casino entertainment areas in Southeast Asia, most notably in Singapore, are struggling. And in the meantime, online gaming has become more ubiquitous.

There are legitimate arguments that online casinos offer a number of distinct advantages over their land-based rivals, including game quantity, bonuses, etc. Over time, one could imagine these advantages leading to trouble for said land-based casinos.

However, concerns like these don’t appear to be slowing developers down. Bloomberry Resorts, which is responsible for the very popular Solaire casino integrated resort in Manila’s Entertainment City, has been working on a sister destination. And recently, we got news that there would be a groundbreaking in 2019.

The new Solaire will not be in Manila, but rather in Quezon City — which is far less of an established casino destination.

This is a major undertaking, with the new Solaire expected to have the same amount of floor space as the original. This almost undoubtedly means, as was pointed out in the article revealing the planned groundbreaking, that the casino will have to be built vertically, because there just isn’t as much real estate as in Manila. What real estate there is cost the Bloomberry Resorts group nearly $38 million, and the hope is for a final plan to be revealed next January, with construction completed by 2022.

It’s definitely an interesting development to keep an eye on in an area that still seems to have a lot of appeal to tourists.

Quezon City is quite close to Manila, and there’s a chance that a successful second Solaire could effectively extend the tourism map of Manila to encompass both cities. If nothing else though, if it’s anything like the original Solaire, it should be another very entertaining resort for prospective guests to think about visiting.a
