Nearly 70 cops involved in drug trade dismissed in Quezon City

Authorities say that 69 of the 72 Quezon City police officers who were found to be involved in illegal drugs, directly or indirectly, have been relieved of their posts this week.

Officials said that the move is in line with the policy change of the mandate of President Duterte that is being carried out by police chief Ronald Dela Rosa.

Named in the firing were 72 personnel, 69 which ranged in rank from PS-1 to PS-12, three PS-3 officers were also let go due to cases of violating Republic Act 9745, the Anti-Torture Act of the Philippines.

Those same three officers were also charged with theft, and arbitrary detention – three other PS-9 officers have pending cases of robbery by extortion, illegal arrest, arbitrary detention, perjury and planting of evidence charges listed against them.

All 72 of those listed and ‘let go’ will be re-assigned to the District Headquarters Support Unit in Camp Karingal, Quezon City.

Officials said that due process before being officially dismissed in now part of the process – all 72 men will be assigned to menial tasks at Camp Karingal.
