Davao City Mayor Redrigo Duterte Warned the BI About Its Complaints He is Receiving from Foreigners Living in the City

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) in Davao City has been warned by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, to stop harassing foreigners.

The major issued the warning following numerous complaints from Indian medical students who say that agents are harassing them for bribes to get their documents completed.

While Mr Duterte said he has no proof of the allegations, he noted that this was not the first time he has heard complaints from foreigners involving the BI agents. 

Mayor Duterte has asked the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group to immediately investigate the matter and submit their findings by no later then January 14. 

The mayor also said he wants CIDG to investigate the incident involving Dr Ashin Mohan who has also been accused of harassing the same Indian students from Davao City.

“If there is truth that there was money involved, it becomes a crime of extortion or robbery,” said Duterte. “I hope it stops, lay off!” he added.

The mayor also said that Davao City is progressing and many investors are opening their businesses in the city – he went to express “Ayaw Ninyo Guba-a” (Do Not Ruin It). “Do not be an obstacle or hinder the progress of the city by giving it a bad image,” Duterte said. 

The mayor urged businessmen to do business in the city legally. “Kung dili mo motuo sa balaod either pahawa mo (If you do not obey leave the city) or you render yourself being prosecuted,” Duterte warned.
