A pair of male masseurs have been arrested in Cebu after two female Korean customers accused them of rape.

The suspects have been named as Elmer Espinosa, aged 35, and Jay-R Fe Cortez, 27. They both work as masseurs at a massage parlour in Barangay Capitol Site, Cebu City.

Police Officer 3 Richell Bibas of the Women and Children’s Protection Desk said the Korean women, aged 19 and 20, arrived at Fuente Police Station in the early hours of Saturday morning (July 7) to report being sexually assaulted. A follow up operation resulted in the arrest of Espinosa and Cortez.

The women described how they had gone for a massage at about 2am. Chief Inspector Maria Theresa Macatangay, Fuente station commander, told The Inquirer that the suspects allegedly inserted their fingers in the private parts of the victims, despite them being begged to stop.

Espinosa and Cortez both deny the allegations against them.

Speaking to The Freeman newspaper, Espinosa claimed that the victims specifically chose to be handled by male therapists. “We have a clean conscience,” he said.

PO3 Bibas said they were waiting for the victims to return to the station and execute their complaint affidavits for the filing of the formal complaints before the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office today (Monday).

The suspects are now detained at Fuente police precinct pending the filing of charges against them.

The incident is the second such case involving Korean women accusing a Filipino male massage therapist of raping them.

Last year a Korean woman sought the help of Mabolo Police Station after she was allegedly raped by an 18-year-old masseur on the massage table.
