Nobody likes being stuck in Manila traffic, except perhaps some customers of Joyce Tadeo, an extremely popular Uber driver.

It’s not just her looks that keep the psychology graduate so busy, but also her charming personality and friendly chat to while away the hours on the gridlocked streets.

Joyce, a former medical representative at a pharmaceutical company, got into driving following a suggestion from a friend, another Uber driver.

“I’m a risk taker, she told FHM magazine. “I’m always up for something unusual. And when I saw his earnings, that’s what motivated me the most.”

She joined Uber in October 2016 and she mainly drives around the streets of Makati, Ortigas and Bonifacio Global City.

Joyce says she is often flattered by the attention she receives from her passengers. “Most of my passengers are really surprised whenever they book me as their driver.

“I often get compliments and I really appreciate them. Others even ask for selfies and post my Uber details on social media. Since then, I’ve gotten used to it. I enjoy the feeling of being liked.”

However, as a female driver, she says she takes her personal security very seriously: “I always have my rosary and pepper spray for protection beside me,” she said.

Despite these precautions, she says that her passengers are always very friendly. “Everybody knows that traffic is terrible,” she said. “Some light conversation is always a good time killer.”

When she isn’t driving, Joyce goes to dress making classes in Miriam College with the ambition of opening her own clothing business in the future.

And when she isn’t working or studying, she loves to head to the beach. “I love nature tripping because it helps me feel disconnected from the chaos happening in the city,” she said.
