The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a statement saying they will begin to issue five-year driving licences next month to lessen the queues at LTO offices throughout the Philippines.

A spokesperson for the LTO said “By September 19, those who will renew their licences in the National Capital Region will have five-year validity.”

Currently the validity for professional and non-professional driving licences is three years.

The LTO said they will begin implementation of the five-year licences in Metro Manila – the rest of the Philippines will follow in October.

In other LTO News, the plastic cards backlog is said to have reached over one million as of July – sources say they will begin releasing 400,000 licences per month beginning in November to make up for the backlog.
